Lips are pretty delicate things. The upper part is Labium superius oris and the lower part is our Labium inferius oris. Collectively they form an enormously sensitive, incredibly flexible part of our body. However, they also have some vulnerabilities. For instance, the skin of the lips is different from the rest of the face. And for this, it needs the sensitive care of soft and organic element like honey. Honey for chapped lips is one types of home remedy you can rely on.
- In our lips there is a layer outside, this is called epidermis. It has a cover of the layer which protects the epidermis named stratum corneum. You can find another layer which is called Underneath epidermis.
- Lips have these three parts and only the exception is there is a very thin part from other places of our body which is called stratum corneum. In fact, it’s part of the reason people’s lips have that alluring red or pink pigment.
- Red-colored, blood-filled are kin to the thin skin on our chapped lips and it is from suppressed blood vessels.
- Next, our lips also don’t have the oil and sweat glands that protect other parts of our skin. Saliva effortlessly becomes dry and chapped though this is the only component of moisture.
Causes of Dry Lips
And that’s usually the culprit here: hydration. We often experience chapped lips in cold or windy weather – not because our lips are allergic to winter or windy day, but instead because those times outside air tends to be drier, and this also dries out the lips.
A difficult habit to break is licking up our lips. In winter season saliva vaporize rapidly and make our lips dry by taking with it any moisture. And this drying out is the leading cause of chapped lips, also known as common cheilitis. Luckily, there are some pretty simple ways to prevent this. One of the ways is honey.
